Onboarding was July 1st, in the office tower above MIXC Qianhai. It’s very close to my home — a few minutes on my little scooter and I’m there, which is the most overpowered part of this entire internship (a five-minute commute for an eight-hour workday!). O counts as a big hardware company, but for a software person it may not be the most central place to be. I was assigned to the Software Engineering division, the Camera group under System Integration Development, mainly dealing with the camera’s assorted weird problems.

Busy, busy, busy.

I’ve genuinely traded a lot less this stretch, largely because school has been insanely busy — no time to trade, let alone time to write reviews.

I ran my positions pretty full last time in May, close to 80%. Position management, on a long horizon, might be an entropy-increasing process — sometimes you’re just idle and want to buy a little something, without thinking it through enough. That might be a problem.

This thing hits no less hard than discovering Claude Code did back in the day. It sounds incredibly corny, but it genuinely works.

The biggest bottleneck in my vibe coding used to be typing speed. Say I wanted to multi-task across several sessions — grinding a humanities/social-science final proposal on one side while juggling a few other projects — my eyes could barely keep up, but there was no way for me to output with three hands at once. I type fast, but never fast enough to feed prompts into that many windows.

The original plan was just to beat the Nasdaq for the year — by past-average backtests that might even let me feed myself independently. Instead, the opening move landed me a doubler. Part of it, credit to the tape: the Nasdaq just printed a one-month rally not seen in who knows how many years, actually allowing a company worth hundreds of billions of USD to double within a single month — genuinely never seen before; part of it is a repricing process in HBM and memory. Honestly, the repricing itself isn’t jaw-dropping; the only dizzying thing is how fast all of it happened.

While the reason for CS finals to exist can’t be entirely denied, that doesn’t change the fact that core-course finals in CS have always been a widely maligned, spirit-grinding affair. For one thing, the final score doesn’t reliably reflect how deep a student’s understanding of the course actually is (that is… deep learning); for another, the effort-to-reward ratio of a final can’t be guaranteed — plenty of the time you pour hours into review and still can’t pull a high score.

The MacBook's gold content is still rising.

Anyone who knows me knows that in the second half of last year my main machine switched from the Legion to a MacBook Air M4 — originally just for portability and battery life, plus escaping Ubuntu’s disaster-tier desktop performance; sometimes I genuinely do need to reproduce environments, and having a remote box is much more convenient. So now the Legion has become a personal-use Ubuntu 20.04 server bolted to the dorm’s ethernet port, trained into pure comfort with tailscale public-net SSH + Claude Code, solving both the no-public-IPv4 situation and native SSH’s bad command line (uh, I sometimes really do use CC as a smart command line).

Well, at least we finished.

There was no particular reason for it — I’d never touched math modeling — I was simply invited to the MCM on short notice. I skimmed how the contest worked, felt it was a decent fit for my tech stack, and said yes. Fully aware that the result would do almost nothing for my grad-school applications, I barely prepared beforehand: a rough search of the contest’s usual playbook and other people’s debriefs, and then straight in.
