Onboarding was July 1st, in the office tower above MIXC Qianhai. It’s very close to my home — a few minutes on my little scooter and I’m there, which is the most overpowered part of this entire internship (a five-minute commute for an eight-hour workday!). O counts as a big hardware company, but for a software person it may not be the most central place to be. I was assigned to the Software Engineering division, the Camera group under System Integration Development, mainly dealing with the camera’s assorted weird problems.

Suspected case of life flashing before my eyes

Finals week. The last finals week, at SUSTech. After this there will be no more exams for me, ever — what’s left is just two thesis defenses, and then I can walk away with the so-called SUSTech Bachelor of Engineering. Not that exams were ever likely to make me nostalgic, but this time it really does seem to be over.

Busy, busy, busy.

I’ve genuinely traded a lot less this stretch, largely because school has been insanely busy — no time to trade, let alone time to write reviews.

I ran my positions pretty full last time in May, close to 80%. Position management, on a long horizon, might be an entropy-increasing process — sometimes you’re just idle and want to buy a little something, without thinking it through enough. That might be a problem.

The original plan was just to beat the Nasdaq for the year — by past-average backtests that might even let me feed myself independently. Instead, the opening move landed me a doubler. Part of it, credit to the tape: the Nasdaq just printed a one-month rally not seen in who knows how many years, actually allowing a company worth hundreds of billions of USD to double within a single month — genuinely never seen before; part of it is a repricing process in HBM and memory. Honestly, the repricing itself isn’t jaw-dropping; the only dizzying thing is how fast all of it happened.

Hooked on MU, this lifetime might be ruined.

My life, at least since high school, has been one long while(true) review. Reviewing might be seen as a data augmentation + self-supervised learning process; the side effect is it can make me more obsessive, but past experience has overall done more good than harm. The MacBook's gold content is still rising.

Anyone who knows me knows that in the second half of last year my main machine switched from the Legion to a MacBook Air M4 — originally just for portability and battery life, plus escaping Ubuntu’s disaster-tier desktop performance; sometimes I genuinely do need to reproduce environments, and having a remote box is much more convenient. So now the Legion has become a personal-use Ubuntu 20.04 server bolted to the dorm’s ethernet port, trained into pure comfort with tailscale public-net SSH + Claude Code, solving both the no-public-IPv4 situation and native SSH’s bad command line (uh, I sometimes really do use CC as a smart command line).

It’s not like I haven’t tasted the good stuff — I ran a GPT5 subscription for a while, Thinking model included, plus that Pro model it bragged was so mighty — but in actual output latency and willingness to speak human, neither matched the 2.5 Pro I used for free on AIStudio.

Some rambling without much substance

The end-to-end autonomous driving model research I did last semester didn’t end in particularly satisfying results — many factors involved. I’ll only dissect my own causes. One: last semester I was stuck in some uncanny state of ultra-high-intensity Coursework stacked on un-raisable efficiency, leaving me with no time at all — in December it genuinely felt like even stretching my day to 36 hours wouldn’t get the work done. In the end, the semester closed out hastily with a bad cold plus deferred exams. Two: broadly attributable to my experience still being too thin — I made plenty of detour-taking mistakes, though in a sense that also trained me up.

If you think of personal growth as a binary tree, then this past year I definitely pruned off a few of the big branches.

I turn twenty this year, and both physically and mentally my adolescence is entering its final stretch. In the old days, whenever dynasties changed hands, historians would compile the chronicles of the previous reign — and applied to a single person, the habit doesn’t feel out of place at all. Deconstructing my past self, I found something interesting: a lot of things looked like my own responsibility at the time, things I could have handled more sensibly. But viewed from now, it was simply that the limited understanding I had back then wouldn’t allow me to make the most correct decision.
